There are almost thirty of them. Shut away, confined, almost hidden in the premises of the Perigord Facsimile Studios: painters, sculptors, moulders, plastic artists, metalworker. Three years ago these highly qualified artists and craftsmen set out on an incredible adventure to prolong the magic of the Lascaux cave for the Montignac-Lascaux International Centre for Cave Art.
A challenge that met with success since the walls are present on the site still under construction.
To start with, simple polystyrene blocks cut with millimetre accuracy, assembled, scraped, sculpted by expert hands in order to mould the stone with surgical precision. Long patient work to bring back to life on the walls, bison, cows or aurochs…several thousand years old!
A total of almost 900 sq m of walls for this project, or almost 3 handball courts !
A unique savoir-faire that is also being exported throughout the world. The Lascaux exhibition was just set up in South Korea.
Congratulations to the whole team !
We’re anxious to present these works to the public on 15 December 2016.
